Magazine ownership & regulation

LO: research ownership, regulation & institution involved in music magazines.

  • IPC media - Uncut magazines
  • Bauer media-Q magazines, Mojo , the box,downtown country,magic
  • Condé Nast-Pitch fork magazines
  • Immediate media-Radio times
  • Hearst-no music magazines
  • BBC
The best two ways magazines make money is by people buying their magazine and the other way is by adverts, either in their magazines or on tv or advertised in the street. If they own more then one type of magazine they can advertise their magazines for free so they are not spending more money on adverts.

Ownership

The majority of magazines are published by nine companies but their titles make up nearly 75% of the market. This means they have a massive influence over audiences and their companies will only get bigger as they control most of the market.

Media regulation & law

IPSO is The Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) is the independent regulator for the newspaper and magazine industry in the UK. Ipso makes sure the newspapers and magazines follow the editors code.

Future of magazines

The biggest thing thats changed magazines is that its gone digital. Its cheaper and production is also cheaper. Its quicker and easier to do.

Analysis of moving image

Monday 22nd May

Film : IT

Trailer : Trailer here

The genre of the film, IT, is a horror. We can tell this is a horror film because of the creepy music, a little kid talking over the scene, and slow zooms into objects faces and places. and dark lighting.

Camera work

1. Fast straight cut,to black screen, then fast straight cut
2. High angle shot
3.Slow track shot towards a missing poster. this shows this object is important for the film later on.

Editing

The trailer is fast past and jumpy it like this because of the genre.

Sound

Sound has been increased for some objects and non-diegetic music is played. Between scenes a swoosh noise happens this noise is non diegeticAlso when the kids enter the sewer a balloon appears and pops this sound is increased and the echo is also this is for effect and to also make you jump this sound is diegetic.

Who : Plymouth argyle football club Why : Because they have a chance to win the league

When: The end of the season

Where: Plymouth , Devon , England

How: By winning continuous games in the league.

Argyle was promoted in 2004 and was relegated in 2009.

The club was founded in 1886 as Argyle Football Club, the first match taking place on 16 October 1886 against Caxton, a team from Cornwall and saw the Pilgrims lose 2–0. Later that week Argyle won for the first time–beating Dunheved College (now Launceston College) in Launceston (where many of the club's first members had been educated) 2–1.[1] They played several friendlies against Plymouth United, but poor performances on the pitch led to the club going out of existence in 1894 before being resurrected in 1897 as one part of a general sports club, the Argyle Athletic Club.[2]In 1898, Argyle F.C. produced its first rulebook. The club's ground was given as Marsh Mills, an area on the edge of the city of Plymouth, which still hosts sports.
Much speculation surrounds the origin of the name Argyle. One explanation is that the club was named after the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, an army regiment with a strong football side of its own. Another theory is given by the local geography–suggesting the name comes either from the nearby public houseThe Argyle Tavern, where the founder members may have met, or from a local street Argyle Terrace.[3]
The club adopted its current name when it became fully professional in 1903 joining the Southern League, under the management of Bob Jack. Argyle's first professional game was on 1 September 1903[4] against West Ham United resulting in a 2–0 win for Argyle with the first goal being scored by Jack Peddie. Their first home game as a fully professional club was on 5 September 1903 when they beat Northampton Town 2–0 in front of a crowd of 4,438. Argyle won the Southern League in 1913, then in 1920 entered the Football League Third Division as a founder member, where they finished 11th in their first season.
